Watching Natural Gas

natural gas

Let’s be blunt here: the natural gas business blows right now. Having a product with an identity crisis between being “green” and “dirty”, having all the environmental, technical and capital risks of drilling – and if you’re successful – the risks of rapidly declining production, is not a good place to be when you’re barely scraping by above cost. Furthermore even the API forecasts no lack of supply in the foreseeable future thanks to improved shale gas production.

But having tuned my ears to opportunity I like hearing that things blow. The bottom line is that natural gas – unlike many products and services (and even some well known “commodities”) – is actually USEFUL. We need it to sustain our standard of living. This fact alone overrides all the inept marketing on the part of the natural gas industry to date. With the oil to natural gas ratio the highest it’s been in decades something has to give.

I am watching $NATGAS and the general market closely. If these stabilize and return to an uptrend, it’s only a matter of time till the next superspike works its way into the system.

Blow away natural gas – I’ll be watching!

PS my apologies for the offensive picture but it was simply too funny not to publish!
